PUBLIC NOTICE – TOTAL FIRE BAN LIFTED
NIGHT BURNING PERMITTED

 

Effective 9:00 a.m. August 29, 2025, the Municipality of Hastings Highlands will lift the fire ban due to significant rainfalls and improvement in air quality. 

If dry conditions become a concern in the future, another Fire Ban may be required. Open air burning, including small campfires, is now permitted, but residents are reminded to be extra cautious as surrounding grasses and dry branches can easily ignite.

The Municipality of Hastings Highlands reminds residents that all burning regulations still apply. The burning regulations are as follows:

·       The fire is ignited at 7:00 p.m. or later and is extinguished at 7:00 a.m. or earlier during the period from April 1st to October 31st;

·       Small campfires no larger then 2 feet by 2 feet for cooking and warmth are permitted.

·       The fire is at least 5 meters from any combustible materials.

·       A responsible person capable of extinguishing the fire has adequate tools, water and human resources to contain the fire; and

At this time, The Municipality reminds residents that due to conditions the burning of large brush fires, yard waste is prohibited until further notice.

Kamaniskeg Lake Lookout - Proposed Redevelopments and Accessibility Upgrades

About the Project

The Municipality of Hastings Highlands is redeveloping Kamaniskeg Lake Lookout (107 Lookout Park Rd. Purdy, ON) to enhance the visitor experience, improve safety, and ensure accessibility for all community members. Planned upgrades include improved pathways, seating areas, parking, and facilities designed to meet modern accessibility standards.

The project aims to create a fully accessible and inclusive space, ensuring that people of all abilities can safely enjoy and experience the natural beauty of Kamaniskeg Lake Lookout.

Proposed Features and Upgrades

  • Upgrades to Pathways and Walkways: Have been redeveloped with stable, firm, and level surfaces, wide clear paths, and the addition of Tactile Walking Surface Indicators to provide safe and accessible use for everyone 

  • Accessible Parking Space: One Type A (van-accessible) parking space with access aisles for safe entry and exit, clearly identified with accessible signage to ensure ease of use for everyone

  • Upgrades to Outdoor Seating and Eating Area: Installation of an accessible picnic table, placed on level, firm, and stable ground with clear surrounding space to ensure safe and comfortable use for everyone

  • Accessible Portable Toilet: Designed for use by all visitors, including those using mobility aids, to ensure safe and convenient access
