TOTAL FIRE BAN LIFTED- August 29 2025

PUBLIC NOTICE – TOTAL FIRE BAN LIFTED
NIGHT BURNING PERMITTED

 

Effective 9:00 a.m. August 29, 2025, the Municipality of Hastings Highlands will lift the fire ban due to significant rainfalls and improvement in air quality. 

If dry conditions become a concern in the future, another Fire Ban may be required. Open air burning, including small campfires, is now permitted, but residents are reminded to be extra cautious as surrounding grasses and dry branches can easily ignite.

The Municipality of Hastings Highlands reminds residents that all burning regulations still apply. The burning regulations are as follows:

·       The fire is ignited at 7:00 p.m. or later and is extinguished at 7:00 a.m. or earlier during the period from April 1st to October 31st;

·       Small campfires no larger then 2 feet by 2 feet for cooking and warmth are permitted.

·       The fire is at least 5 meters from any combustible materials.

·       A responsible person capable of extinguishing the fire has adequate tools, water and human resources to contain the fire; and

At this time, The Municipality reminds residents that due to conditions the burning of large brush fires, yard waste is prohibited until further notice.

Creative by Nature - A Maker Fair in Maynooth

Creative By Nature – a maker fair in Maynooth.

 

With a focus on original, handcrafted pieces—including fine art, ceramics, textiles, woodworking, jewelry, and more—the fair will highlight the incredible talent and diversity of the region’s creative community. 

The fair will provide an accessible, high-quality, well-appointed venue – lots of parking, on Maynooth Main Street, bathrooms - where the public can connect with independent creators and discover unique, locally crafted goods. 

Creative by Nature is an opportunity for local artisans and craftspeople to showcase and sell their work while fostering a strong sense of community around handmade artistry. This event is new in 2025. 

A collective of artists and makers are organizing this event, hosted by the Municipality of Hastings Highlands and the Hastings Highlands Public Library with funding from the Government of Canada through the Federal Economic Development Agency for Southern Ontario (@FedDevOntario).

Time: 10am- 3pm
