PUBLIC NOTICE – TOTAL FIRE BAN LIFTED
NIGHT BURNING PERMITTED

 

Effective 9:00 a.m. August 29, 2025, the Municipality of Hastings Highlands will lift the fire ban due to significant rainfalls and improvement in air quality. 

If dry conditions become a concern in the future, another Fire Ban may be required. Open air burning, including small campfires, is now permitted, but residents are reminded to be extra cautious as surrounding grasses and dry branches can easily ignite.

The Municipality of Hastings Highlands reminds residents that all burning regulations still apply. The burning regulations are as follows:

·       The fire is ignited at 7:00 p.m. or later and is extinguished at 7:00 a.m. or earlier during the period from April 1st to October 31st;

·       Small campfires no larger then 2 feet by 2 feet for cooking and warmth are permitted.

·       The fire is at least 5 meters from any combustible materials.

·       A responsible person capable of extinguishing the fire has adequate tools, water and human resources to contain the fire; and

At this time, The Municipality reminds residents that due to conditions the burning of large brush fires, yard waste is prohibited until further notice.

Notice of Public Meeting - Building Dept. Fees, November 19, 2025

Notice of Public Meeting

 

Take Notice that pursuant to subsection 7(6) of the Building Code Act of Ontario, 1992, The Council of the Corporation of the Municipality of Hastings Highlands will be holding a Public Meeting on November 19, 2025 at 9:00 a.m. in the Council Chambers at Maynooth, Ontario to consider revisions to the Building Department’s Fee Schedule.

Information will be provided at the meeting on the amount of the proposed fees and the rationale for changing and/or imposing fees. Any person may attend the meeting to make oral submissions or submit in writing, either in support of or opposition to the proposed amendments.

Public Meeting Date: Wednesday, November 19, 2025, at 9:00 a.m.

Options to attend and/or submit comments are as follows:

A) Virtual Attendance (with comments) - To obtain a link to join the virtual meeting via Zoom please contact Suzanne Huschilt, Municipal Clerk by phone: 613-338-2811 ext. 277, or by email: [email protected] no later than 9:00 a.m. on the Tuesday before the scheduled meeting. It is the responsibility of the interested member of the public to have technology in place to connect to the meeting. 

B) Virtual Attendance (no comments) - If you wish to view the public meeting in real time, but do not wish to speak, the meeting will be live streamed and posted on the Municipality’s YouTube Channel.

C) Written comment - Please forward written comment submissions to Suzanne Huschilt, Municipal Clerk by email: [email protected] or by letter delivered to the Municipal Office 33011 Hwy 62, P.O. Box 130, Maynooth, ON K0L 2S0 no later than 9:00 a.m. on the Tuesday before the scheduled meeting.

D) In-Person Attendance - 33011 Highway 62, Maynooth, ON. Please note that members of the public are welcome to attend meetings in-person however seating in Council Chambers is limited.

The proposed user fee amendments will be published in the Council Agenda on November 13, 2025 by 4:00 p.m. which is available via the municipal website at www.hastingshighlands.ca or by contacting the office of the undersigned.

Questions for clarification ahead of the meeting date may be directed to the Building Department by filling out a Customer Service Request via the municipal website at  www.hastingshighlands.ca or by contacting the office of the Chief Building Official at 613 338-2811 ext. 255.
