DECLARATION OF SIGNIFICANT WEATHER EVENT
The Municipality of Hastings Highlands' Operations Manager has declared a Significant Weather Event in accordance with Section 16.9 of the Ontario Regulation 239/02 Minimum Maintenance Standards for Municipal Highways.
Declaration Start Date: March 10, 2026 Time: 11:59p.m.
Reasons for Declaration of Event:
Environment Canada has issued an alert for Central Ontario in respect of a significant weather event commencing on Wednesday March 11, 2026, with freezing rain, heavy rain, and hazardous travel conditions on all roads expected to impact the region.
Because of this, the Municipality of Hastings Highlands is declaring a Significant Weather Event under which the Municipality will be exempt from Provincial service levels for winter maintenance.
Ontario Regulation 239/02 defines a Significant Weather Event as an approaching or occurring weather hazard with the potential to pose a significant danger to users of the highways within a municipality.
It may take longer than usual to clear Municipal roads, and sidewalks.
The Municipality of Hastings Highlands encourages all residents on the roads and sidewalks to be cautious and avoid unnecessary travel for the duration of the Significant Weather Event.
This declaration will be cancelled as soon as roadways are deemed safe.

As a result of this warning, the Hastings Highlands Centre and Municipal Office will be CLOSED Wednesday March 11, 2026.
