Re: Declaration of Significant Weather Event December 28, 2025

As of December 28, 2025 at 7:00 p.m. the Municipality of Hastings Highlands has declared the forecasted freezing rain a Significant Weather Event, in accordance with Ontario Regulation 239/02 (Provincial Minimum Maintenance Standards for Municipal Highways). 

The standard for addressing winter maintenance during a significant weather event is to monitor the weather conditions and deploy resources to address maintenance issues when the municipality deems it is appropriate and safe to do so. Municipal staff have been working to prepare across the municipality and snow plows will be fully mobilized for salting and sanding tonight, overnight and tomorrow morning. 

Roads are expected to become ice-covered and freezing rain is anticipated to continue into Monday morning. Municipal crews will continue to monitor the situation and will officially declare the end of the event once service levels return to normal.

We strongly urge residents to avoid travel unless absolutely necessary and to stay off the sidewalks and roads wherever possible for your safety and the safety of our crews.
