MPP Announces $25M for the Rebuilding of 62 North
in Hastings Highlands
HASTINGS HIGHLANDS - March 16, 2026
The Ontario government is moving forward with the rebuilding of ON-62 North in Hastings Highlands, reinforcing its commitment to improving transportation infrastructure and enhancing road safety across Hastings–Lennox and Addington and all of Ontario.
Today, Member of Provincial Parliament for Hastings – Lennox and Addington Ric Bresee announced $25 million in provincial funding for reconstruction work that will proceed on ON-62 North in Hastings Highlands.
“This project is a wonderful example of the importance of a positive relationship between the province and municipalities,” said Hastings – Lennox and Addington MPP Ric Bresee. “I want to express my appreciation for the strong advocacy and excellent technical presentation by Mayor Tony Fitzgerald, CAO David Stewart, and their whole team. Together, we are making a difference for all the users of 62 North.”
The project will include rehabilitation and resurfacing of the roadway, along with improvements to drainage, shoulders, and other key infrastructure components. These upgrades will extend the life of the highway, enhance driving conditions, and ensure the route remains reliable for commercial and recreational traffic.
“Highway 62 North is a critical route for families, workers and businesses in Hastings Highlands,” said Minister of Transportation Prabmeet Sarkaria. “Our government is rebuilding this highway to improve safety, strengthen this vital connection for local communities, and keep people and goods moving across eastern Ontario.”
The Mayor for Hastings Highlands added, “With this financial support from the Province, the Municipality can restore this regional transportation corridor to modern standards supporting both regional commerce and community resilience.”
Highway 62 North is a vital corridor connecting communities across eastern Ontario and serving as a key route for local residents, forestry operations, tourism, and goods movement.
Hastings Highlands CAO David Stewart said “A project of this size and scope will leave a legacy on the Hastings Highlands community and I’m proud to be a member of the team leading the charge.”
Construction timelines and additional project details will be shared by the Municipality as work progresses.
