Once the annual budgets (Municipality of Hastings Highlands, Hastings County and Hastings School Boards) are completed, the annual tax rates are then compiled and applied to the property assessments, as set out in the Provincial Regulations which require the County (Upper Tier) to establish any required tax policies; and which determines the property owner’s taxes for the current year.

Municipal Tax Billing 2017
- Interim Tax Bills were mailed out on Feb 10th, 2017
- 1st installment was due March 21, 2017
- 2nd installment was due May 23, 2017
- 2017 Final Tax Bills mailed out on July 12, 2017
- 3rd installment due August 22, 2017
- Last installment (4th) due October 24, 2017
Please note that the Final Tax Bills are payable on their due dates.
All ratepayers who are on Pre-authorized Payment Plan had monthly payment amounts change in Jan 2017 for the first six months and will have in July 2017 for the next six months. No notification is given prior to the payment amount changing in any given year.

Municipal Property Assessment Corporation (MPAC)
This year, the Municipal Property Assessment Corporation (MPAC) is updating the assessed values of every property in Ontario. These changes take affect starting in the 2017 tax year. More specifically, Hastings Highlands residents will see this updated assessment affect their tax bills mailed in July, 2017.

Key Messages for Property Owners
Property owners are able to access www.aboutmyproperty.ca when they receive their 2016 Property Assessment Notice in the mail. Login details are included on every Notice mailed. Visitors to the site can also view videos explaining assessment.

When owners receive their Property Assessment Notice, they should review it. No further action is required unless an owner has questions or disagrees with their assessed value or classification. If an owner doesn’t agree with their assessment, they have the option to file a request for reconsideration (see link to video below).

Farm Property Class Tax Rate Program
To request that a property be eligible for the farm property classes, a request must be filed with the Ministry of Agriculture Food and Rural Affairs (OMAFRA). More information is available on the Ministry’s website http://www.omafra.gov.on.ca/english/policy/ftaxbac.htm
